In those formative years at St.Peters, Hercus, like other small engineering shops at that time , accepted whatever work came it's way.

The long term goal was to build a business as a machine tool maker.  At the 1925 Adelaide Exhibition a range of simple but useful machines were exhibited, some of which are shown on this page.

The Australian market was too small to permit a sustained production of most of these machines, however the 3 1/2"lathe would continue in production until 1939 with over 700 lathes built.
